Puerta del Mar Cozumel

Tourist Attraction

The archaeological zone of San Gervasio is the most important and best studied pre-Hispanic center of the documented settlements on the Island of Cozumel. It is called this way since it is located in what was the San Gervasio ranch.

It is considered that this archaeological site was the pilgrimage center for the Mayans who worshiped the goddess “Ixchel”. In addition to being a Mayan sacred center, it was a strategic site for trade and political development in the area.

The area is made up of six architectural ensembles and other isolated temples, which are of great interest and give you an idea of how the Mayans developed their administrative, religious and daily life activities, and which are linked by a network of Sacbés or white roads.
